Moderation Policy
Halflight is a client app for Pixelfed and Mastodon. Content moderation lives primarily with the federated instance you have signed into — Halflight does not host any social content of its own.
What we moderate vs what your instance moderates
Halflight is a client; content moderation lives with the instance you signed into. We cannot remove content from servers we do not operate. Each instance you connect to has its own community guidelines and moderation team, and those rules govern the content you post and view through that instance.
Reporting
Every post, profile, and direct message has a Report action. Reports are forwarded to the originating instance's moderators via the standard Mastodon/Pixelfed /api/v1/reports endpoint. The Halflight team does not receive copies of in-app reports — they go directly to the instance whose moderators are responsible for the content.

Blocking and muting
You can:
- Block other users — blocked users are hidden across feeds, mentions, and search results.
- Mute hashtags and keywords — content matching them is filtered out of your feeds.
Both actions are local to your account on the instance and do not require contacting Halflight.
Instance-level actions Halflight may take
In rare cases Halflight may refuse to add a specific instance as an account in the app, where that instance has been:
- Flagged by Apple, Google, or law enforcement; or
- The subject of repeated abuse reports across our user base.
A small denylist for this purpose is planned but not yet shipped. Any future entries will be documented here.
