Terms of Service

By installing or using the Halflight mobile app ("Halflight"), you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. License

Halflight is open-source software, distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0), inherited from its upstream project (pixelfed-rn). You may use, modify, and redistribute Halflight under the terms of that license. The license text is included with the app.

2. Use of the app

Halflight is a client for the Pixelfed and Mastodon networks. The content you view, post, and interact with is provided and governed by the federated instance(s) you connect to, not by us. Each instance has its own terms of service and community guidelines, which apply to your use of that instance.

2.1 Age

You must be at least 13 years old (16 if you reside in the European Economic Area) to use Halflight, and not below the minimum age set by your chosen instance's terms.

2.2 Prohibited content and conduct

You may not use Halflight to publish or share illegal content, content depicting minors in sexualised contexts (CSAM) (see Child Safety standards), targeted harassment, threats of violence, or other content prohibited by your instance's terms. Use the Report action available on every post and profile to flag content; reports are forwarded to the moderators of the originating instance. Halflight may, at its discretion, block specific instances from being added as accounts in the app where that instance has been the subject of repeated abuse reports across our user base or has been flagged by Apple, Google, or law enforcement (see our moderation policy).

3. Disclaimer

The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

4. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of the app or any content obtained through it.

5. Third-party content

The app accesses content hosted on third-party Pixelfed and Mastodon instances. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of service of those instances.

6. Changes

We may revise these terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

7.1 Disputes

Disputes arising from the use of Halflight are governed by Norwegian law and resolved by the courts of Norway, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence overrides this choice.
